# Andrew Murunga

**Andrew Murunga** (born 20 October 1995) is a Kenyan [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays for [Kenyan Premier League](/source/Kenyan_Premier_League) side [Vihiga United](/source/Vihiga_United) as a [striker](/source/Forward_(association_football)#Striker). He made his debut for the [Kenya national football team](/source/Kenya_national_football_team) on 5 June 2013 in a [2014 FIFA World Cup qualification](/source/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CAF)) match against [Nigeria](/source/Nigeria_national_football_team).

## Club career

On 27 June 2010, Murunga joined [Gor Mahia](/source/Gor_Mahia_F.C.) from the [National Youth Talent Academy](/source/National_Youth_Talent_Academy) based in [Nairobi](/source/Nairobi).[2] After spending a year with the former champions, Murunga joined [Bandari](/source/Bandari_F.C._(Kenya)).[3] He spent 6 months with the [Coastal](/source/Coast_Province_(Kenya)) club before joining [Tusker](/source/Tusker_F.C.) on 21 December 2011.[4]

After moving to Tusker, Murunga had a relatively unsuccessful year with the champions, playing regularly but not managing to a score a single goal throughout the entire [2012 season](/source/2012_Kenyan_Premier_League). He was released by the club on 5 December 2012.[5] On 22 February 2013, [Naivasha](/source/Naivasha) club [Karuturi Sports](/source/Karuturi_Sports) revealed their new signings for the [2013 season](/source/2013_Kenyan_Premier_League), with Murunga included in the list and given the squad number 28.[6] He managed to score 6 goals in 11 league appearances for the club, and was even named [man of the match](/source/Man_of_the_match) for his performance away to [Ulinzi Stars](/source/Ulinzi_Stars_F.C.) at the [Afraha Stadium](/source/Afraha_Stadium) in [Nakuru](/source/Nakuru) on 28 April 2013, in which he provided an assist for [Mohammed Mwachiponi](/source/Mohammed_Mwachiponi) in the 59th minute.[7]

Following his good performances in the league, Murunga rejoined his former club [Tusker](/source/Tusker_F.C.) on 17 June 2013, for a transfer window record fee of [KSh.](/source/Kenyan_shilling)100,000/=.[8] On 8 January 2014, Murunga signed a season-long loan deal with [Kenya Commercial Bank](/source/Kenya_Commercial_Bank_S.C.) ahead of the [2014 season](/source/2014_in_Kenyan_football).[9] On 22 August 2014, it was announced that Murunga joined [F.C. Talanta](/source/F.C._Talanta) in the [Kenyan National Super League](/source/Kenyan_National_Super_League).[10]

On 13 January 2016, Murunga joined newly promoted [Kakamega Homeboyz](/source/Kakamega_Homeboyz_F.C.) ahead of the [2016 season](/source/2016_Kenyan_Premier_League), becoming the club's fourth signing of the window after [David Juma](/source/David_Juma) (Gor Mahia), [Martin Imbalambala](/source/Martin_Imbalambala) ([A.F.C. Leopards](/source/A.F.C._Leopards)) and [Mike Khaduli](/source/Mike_Khaduli) ([Muhoroni Youth](/source/Muhoroni_Youth_F.C.)).[11]

## International career

Murunga made his debut for [Kenya](/source/Kenya_national_football_team) on 5 June 2013 in a [2014 FIFA World Cup qualification](/source/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CAF)) match against [Nigeria](/source/Nigeria_national_football_team), coming on as an 89th-minute substitute for club team-mate [David Ochieng](/source/David_Ochieng). In his second international game against [Malawi](/source/Malawi_national_football_team), Murunga scored his debut goal to level the score at 1–1 in the 53rd minute, helping his country to a 2–2 away at the [Kamuzu Stadium](/source/Kamuzu_Stadium) in [Blantyre](/source/Blantyre).[12][13]
