# Andrew Learned

**Andrew P. Learned** is an American politician. He is a [Democrat](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) who represented the 59th district in the [Florida House of Representatives](/source/Florida_House_of_Representatives) for a single two-year term before losing re-election in 2022.

## Early life and education

Learned holds a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree from the [University of Tampa](/source/University_of_Tampa).[2] Learned served in the [United States Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) for four years[3] before transferring to the [United States Navy Reserve](/source/United_States_Navy_Reserve) in 2013.[4] He deployed to the Middle East three times.[2]

## Career

In [2018](/source/2018_United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections_in_Florida#District_15), Learned ran for election to represent Florida's 15th Congressional District, placing second in a three-way Democratic primary.[5]

In [2020](/source/2020_Florida_House_of_Representatives_election), he ran to represent the 59th district in the Florida House of Representatives. He was unopposed in the Democratic primary, and narrowly defeated [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) Michael Owen in the general election.[1]

In [2022](/source/2022_Florida_House_of_Representatives_election), Learned ran for re-election in the 69th district but lost to [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) Danny Alvarez by a 14 point margin.[1][6]
