**Andrew Lanham** is an American film screenwriter best known for his collaborations with [Destin Daniel Cretton](/source/Destin_Daniel_Cretton), including *[The Shack](/source/The_Shack_(2017_film))* (2017), *[The Glass Castle](/source/The_Glass_Castle_(2017_film))* (2017), *[Just Mercy](/source/Just_Mercy)* (2019), and *[Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings](/source/Shang-Chi_and_the_Legend_of_the_Ten_Rings)* (2021).

## Career

In 2015, he began his career with a script for the drama film *Boy21*.[1] In 2016, Lanham started a series of collaborations with [Destin Daniel Cretton](/source/Destin_Daniel_Cretton), by co-writing the screenplay for the religious film *[The Shack](/source/The_Shack_(2017_film))*.[2] A second collaborative effort with Cretton was developed in the same year with the drama film *[The Glass Castle](/source/The_Glass_Castle_(2017_film))*.[3] In 2017, he drafted the screenplay for the western film *[The Kid](/source/The_Kid_(2019_film))*.[4] In 2019, he wrote the script for Cretton's fourth film *[Just Mercy](/source/Just_Mercy)*.[5] In 2021, he gained notability when he wrote Cretton's superhero film *[Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings](/source/Shang-Chi_and_the_Legend_of_the_Ten_Rings)*.[6] In February 2022, he was writing the screenplay for *Harbinger*, based on the [Valiant Comics](/source/Valiant_Comics) [comic book series of the same name](/source/Harbinger_(comic_book)).[7] In May 2024, he was writing the script for the [Amazon MGM Studios](/source/Amazon_MGM_Studios) film *The Robots Go Crazy*.[8]

## Accolades

In January 2020, Lanham's work on *Just Mercy* was nominated at the 9th [Georgia Film Critics Association](/source/Georgia_Film_Critics_Association) for the "Oglethorpe Award for Excellence in Georgia Cinema"[10] and at the [NAACP Image Awards](/source/NAACP_Image_Award) for "[Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture](/source/NAACP_Image_Award_for_Outstanding_Writing_in_a_Motion_Picture)".[11] In September 2022, Lanham's work on *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings* was nominated at the [Hugo Awards](/source/Hugo_Awards) for "[Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form](/source/Hugo_Award_for_Best_Dramatic_Presentation)"[12] and at the [Ray Bradbury Award](/source/Ray_Bradbury_Award) for "Outstanding Dramatic Presentation".[13]
