In 2000, he won the Republican primary and was unopposed in the general election. He did not seek re-election in 2002.

===Gubernatorial race===
Halcro ran for [Governor of Alaska](/source/Governor_of_Alaska) in [2006](/source/2006_Alaska_gubernatorial_election) as an [independent candidate](/source/independent_candidate).
