== Early career ==
Gilbert-Scott started his racing career in the [Formula Ford](/source/Formula_Ford) British championship in 1981. In 1983, he moved to the [Lola](/source/Lola_Racing_Cars) Formula Ford works team. Gilbert-Scott was successful, winning the RAC and Townsend Thoresen Championships.{{citation needed|date=December 2025}}

== Career in Europe ==
In 1986, Gilbert-Scott stepped up into [Formula Three](/source/Formula_Three), and ran for the Chuck McCarthy Racing team, finishing 11th overall. In 1987, he competed in some races in the [FIA International Formula 3000 championship](/source/1986_Formula_3000_season), and also entered sports car racing series such as the [World Sportscar Championship](/source/World_Sportscar_Championship) and the [All Japan Sports Prototype Championship](/source/All_Japan_Sports_Prototype_Championship).{{citation needed|date=December 2025}}

Disappointed with his lack of progress in Europe, Gilbert-Scott tried to move to [Japan](/source/Japan) in 1988. In this year, he competed in the [All-Japan Formula Three Championship](/source/All-Japan_Formula_Three_Championship) and the [All Japan Sports Prototype Championship](/source/All_Japan_Sports_Prototype_Championship).{{citation needed|date=December 2025}}

In 1989, Gilbert-Scott had further successes in the [British Formula 3000](/source/British_Formula_3000) series for the [Eddie Jordan Racing](/source/Eddie_Jordan_Racing) team, finishing second overall. He also raced in [International Formula 3000](/source/1989_Formula_3000_season) for GA Motorsports. He raced at the [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/24_Hours_of_Le_Mans) as part of the [Silk Cut](/source/Silk_Cut) [Jaguar](/source/Jaguar_(car)) team in the [Jaguar XJR-9 LM](/source/Jaguar_XJR-9).{{citation needed|date=December 2025}}

In the next two years, Gilbert-Scott continued his competition in the International Formula 3000 championship. He raced for [Leyton House Racing](/source/Leyton_House_Racing) in the [1990 season](/source/1990_Formula_3000_season), and made a few appearances for the Roni Motorsport team in the [1991 season](/source/1991_Formula_3000_season). == Move to Japan ==
In 1992, Gilbert-Scott returned to [Japan](/source/Japan), competing in the [All Japan Formula 3000 Championship](/source/1992_Japanese_Formula_3000_season) for the Stellar International racing team, and also drove their [BMW M3](/source/BMW_M3) car in the [All Japan Touring Car Championship](/source/All_Japan_Touring_Car_Championship). He competed in the same environment until 1997, and also competed in the early years of the [Formula Nippon](/source/Formula_Nippon) championship, started in 1996. Gilbert-Scott is related to [Thomas Scott](/source/Thomas_Scott_(commentator)), rector of [Aston Sandford](/source/Aston_Sandford), [Buckinghamshire](/source/Buckinghamshire), who wrote the first commentary on the English [Bible](/source/Bible). He is also a second cousin of Angus William Thomas Gilbert Scott, a world record ultralight [aviator](/source/aviator), currently living in [Hong Kong](/source/Hong_Kong). He is also descended from the distinguished architects [Sir Giles Gilbert Scott](/source/Sir_Giles_Gilbert_Scott) and [Sir George Gilbert Scott](/source/Sir_George_Gilbert_Scott).
