**Andrew Sylvester Clarkin** (1891 – 23 November 1955) was an [Irish](/source/Irish_people) [Fianna Fáil](/source/Fianna_F%C3%A1il) politician.[1][2]

## Biography

Born in [Mullingar](/source/Mullingar), [County Westmeath](/source/County_Westmeath), Clarkin was the son of Andrew Clarkin and Rose Anne Corrigan.[3]

He stood for election to [Dáil Éireann](/source/D%C3%A1il_%C3%89ireann) as a Fianna Fáil candidate for [Dublin South](/source/Dublin_South_(D%C3%A1il_constituency)) at the [1944 general election](/source/1944_Irish_general_election) but was unsuccessful.[4] He was elected to [Seanad Éireann](/source/Seanad_%C3%89ireann) on the [Administrative Panel](/source/Administrative_Panel) at the 1944 Seanad election. He was re-elected to the Seanad at the 1948, 1951 and 1954 Seanad elections on the [Industrial and Commercial Panel](/source/Industrial_and_Commercial_Panel). He was an unsuccessful candidate at the [1952 Dublin North-West by-election](/source/1952_Dublin_North-West_by-election).[4] He died in 1955 while serving in the [8th Seanad](/source/8th_Seanad).[1]

He served as [Lord Mayor of Dublin](/source/Lord_Mayor_of_Dublin) from 1951 to 1953.[5]
