**Andreas Meling** (22 September 1839 – 8 August 1928) was a Norwegian ship owner and politician.

## Biography

He was born in [Sole](/source/Sola_(village)) (in the old [Håland Municipality](/source/H%C3%A5land_Municipality)) as a son of bailiff Enok Torgersen and Elen Røgh Skavlan. In 1864 he married Lina Monsen,[1] whose brother was a locally known painter[2] and sister married [Peter Hærem](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Peter_H%C3%A6rem&action=edit&redlink=1).[3] Meling was a shipmaster for much of his career, until 1881.[1]

He served as Mayor of [Stavanger](/source/Stavanger_(city)) from 1893. He was elected to the [Parliament of Norway](/source/Parliament_of_Norway) in [1894](/source/1894_Norwegian_parliamentary_election),[4] after having previously served as a deputy representative.[5] He was decorated as a Knight, First Class of the [Order of St. Olav](/source/Order_of_St._Olav) in 1896.[4]
