# Anders Lago

**Anders Lago** (born 31 October 1956) is a Swedish [Social Democratic](/source/Swedish_Social_Democratic_Party) politician and former mayor (Swedish: *Kommunstyrelsens ordförande*) of [Södertälje](/source/S%C3%B6dert%C3%A4lje), Sweden. On 10 April 2008, Lago participated in a hearing before the [Helsinki Commission](/source/Commission_on_Security_and_Cooperation_in_Europe), the independent [U.S. government](/source/U.S._government) agency led by members of [U.S. Congress](/source/U.S._Congress), where he claimed that his small city of about 80,000 was now home to nearly 6,000 [Iraqis](/source/Iraq); "more [refugees](/source/Refugee) than the [United States](/source/United_States) and [Canada](/source/Canada) together".[1]

Lago served as mayor from 1998 to 2011.
