# Ana Šekularac

**Ana Šekularac** (Sr-cyr: Ана Шекуларац; born 1974) is a British-Serbian fashion designer based in London. She is known for her tailored pieces, being inspired by Art-Deco silhouettes, and for incorporating a red, black and white color palette.[1][2][3]

## Career

In 2005, Šekularac launched her namesake label in [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade) at a fashion show organized by the [British Fashion Council](/source/British_Fashion_Council).[4] She went on to present shows in [Milan](/source/Milan) and Paris, as well as at [London Fashion Week](/source/London_Fashion_Week).[5][6][7][8] Her designs have been seen numerous times in fashion magazines like British [Vogue](/source/Vogue_(magazine)),[9] Paris [Vogue](/source/Vogue_(magazine)),[10][11] [Elle Magazine](/source/Elle_Magazine)[2] and Italian [Vanity Fair](/source/Vanity_Fair_(magazine)).[12][13] According to British [Vogue](/source/Vogue_(magazine)), her 2009 collection was "...sculptural, elegant and utterly wow",[14] influenced by ballet and choreography. In 2010, Italian [Vogue](/source/Vogue_(magazine)) profiled Šekularac, calling her one of the young talented designers of the year.[15][16] Her 2011 collection, shown at [Belgrade Fashion Week](/source/Belgrade_Fashion_Week), had a red and white color scheme, defined by asymmetrical lines.[17] In 2013, [Belgrade Fashion Week](/source/Belgrade_Fashion_Week) awarded her the Bazart prize.[18][19] In 2014, she participated in a [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade) show, with other local designers, sponsored by a model scouting agency.[20]

Her designs are worn by celebrities like [Keira Knightley](/source/Keira_Knightley), [Victoria Beckham](/source/Victoria_Beckham), [Sienna Miller](/source/Sienna_Miller), and [Elle McPherson](/source/Elle_McPherson).[8][21] In [Serbia](/source/Serbia), Šekularac herself is treated like a celebrity.[22] In 2015, she opened a boutique in downtown [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade) showcasing her clothing line.[8] However, she feels like she is connected to more than just one place, seeing herself as a global designer.[23]

## Background

Šekularac was born in a London suburb in 1974, but lived in [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade) as a child. Her uncle is a well known Serbian soccer player and coach [Dragoslav Šekularac](/source/Dragoslav_%C5%A0ekularac).[21]

Before she became a designer, Šekularac started out as a model after becoming a [Ford Supermodel](/source/Ford_Models) finalist in 1993.[2][7] She worked in [Milan](/source/Milan), modeling for brands like [Gianfranco Ferré](/source/Gianfranco_Ferr%C3%A9) and [Miu Miu](/source/Miu_Miu).[7] In 1999, Šekularac studied "Business Administration and Marketing" at London's [South Bank University](/source/South_Bank_University). She later got her master's degree in "Fashion Styling" at the [Instituto Marangoni](/source/Instituto_Marangoni) in Milan. While in Italy, she was an editor's assistant for [Cosmopolitan Magazine](/source/Cosmopolitan_Magazine). She then worked at [The Daily Telegraph](/source/The_Daily_Telegraph)'s fashion desk and also studied "Fashion Illustration and Womenswear Pattern Cutting" at the [London College of Fashion](/source/London_College_of_Fashion).[4][7]
