**An Tran** (born July 29, 1952) is a [Vietnamese](/source/Vietnam)-[American](/source/United_States) professional [poker](/source/Poker) player, now living in [Las Vegas, Nevada](/source/Las_Vegas%2C_Nevada).

## Poker career

Tran began playing poker in the mid-1970s and first finished [in the money](/source/Poker_jargon) of a [World Series of Poker](/source/World_Series_of_Poker) (WSOP) event in [1989](/source/1989_World_Series_of_Poker) in the $2,000 [no limit](/source/Betting_(poker)) [hold 'em](/source/Hold_'em) event.[1] In the same year he finished 24th in the $10,000 no limit hold'em [Main Event](/source/WSOP_Main_Event).[2]

Tran has made numerous final tables since then, and won a [WSOP bracelet](/source/WSOP_bracelet) in the [1991](/source/1991_World_Series_of_Poker) $1,500 [pot limit](/source/Betting_(poker)) [Omaha](/source/Omaha_hold_'em) event, defeating [Chris Björin](/source/Chris_Bj%C3%B6rin) in the final heads-up confrontation.[3]

In [1992](/source/1992_World_Series_of_Poker), Tran set the all-time record for paid final tables in one year with six.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] Despite this, he failed to finish higher than 3rd in any event that year.[4]

Tran also made one final table in the WSOP main event, finishing 5th in [1996](/source/1996_World_Series_of_Poker).[5] He narrowly missed out on winning a second WSOP bracelet in [2004](/source/2004_World_Series_of_Poker) when he finished 2nd to [John Hennigan](/source/John_Hennigan_(poker_player)) in the $5,000 [limit](/source/Betting_(poker)) hold'em event.[6]

Tran has been under what he calls a "curse" after selling his one and only [World Series of Poker](/source/World_Series_of_Poker) bracelet for an undisclosed amount. Since selling the bracelet, Tran has not won another WSOP event.

Tran made a [World Poker Tour](/source/World_Poker_Tour) (WPT) final table in January 2006, finishing 5th in the Gold Strike World Poker Open.[7]

As of 2016, his total live tournament winnings exceed $2,725,000.[4] His 43 cashes at the WSOP account for $934,194 of those winnings.[8]
