**Amy Pieters** (born 1 June 1991) is a Dutch professional [road](/source/Road_bicycle_racing) and [track](/source/Track_cycling) cyclist, who is contracted to ride for [UCI Women's WorldTeam](/source/UCI_Women's_Team) [Team SD Worx–Protime](/source/Team_SD_Worx%E2%80%93Protime).[5] She was a member of the Dutch team that finished sixth at the [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/2012_Summer_Olympics) in the [team pursuit](/source/Cycling_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_team_pursuit) (together with [Ellen van Dijk](/source/Ellen_van_Dijk), [Kirsten Wild](/source/Kirsten_Wild) and [Vera Koedooder](/source/Vera_Koedooder)).[6]

On 23 December 2021, Pieters was placed in an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain caused by a fall that day during a training ride near [Alicante](/source/Alicante) with the Dutch national track team.[7] After being repatriated to the Netherlands the following month,[8] Pieters had regained consciousness in April but, due to the brain injury sustained, doctors were unsure of her "residual symptoms and remaining abilities".[9][10] In October 2022, Pieters was able to take her first steps since the fall, at a neuro-rehabilitation centre in [Woerden](/source/Woerden).[11] In 2023 she suffered a momentary setback in her recovery after suffering multiple epileptic seizures.[12] As of January 2025 she was living in an apartment in [Amersfoort](/source/Amersfoort) adapted to her condition. Pieters can walk again, but has only short-term memory and limited speech ability.[13]

## Personal life

Pieters is the daughter of former professional [Peter Pieters](/source/Peter_Pieters), the niece of [Sjaak Pieters](/source/Sjaak_Pieters) and the sister of [Roy Pieters](/source/Roy_Pieters).[2]

### National team pursuit records

Main article: [Dutch record progression track cycling – Women's team pursuit](/source/Dutch_record_progression_track_cycling_%E2%80%93_Women's_team_pursuit)

After the introduction of the women's 3000m [team pursuit](/source/Team_pursuit) at the 2007–08 track cycling season, Pieters was five times part of the team pursuit squad when they established a new Dutch national record. She is not the record holder anymore.
