**Amy Perrett** (born 1990 or 1991) is an Australian professional [rugby union](/source/Rugby_union) referee.[1] She has refereed at the [Women's Rugby World Cup](/source/Women's_Rugby_World_Cup), including the final in 2014, as well as the Women's Sevens World Series and Summer Olympics.[2]

## Early life

Amy Perrett was raised in Sydney's north.[3] From the age of seven to twelve she played junior rugby in mixed teams alongside her twin brother, Paul.[3][4] In 2003, when no longer allowed to play against boys and with no girls teams available at the time, Perrett took up rugby refereeing.[2][5]

## Refereeing career

Perrett joined the NSW Referees Association in 2008 and then began her senior refereeing career. She made her [World Rugby Women's Sevens Series](/source/World_Rugby_Women's_Sevens_Series) debut as a referee in 2012, and went on to the [2016 Olympic Games](/source/Rugby_sevens_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_tournament) where she was in charge of the women's bronze medal match between [Canada](/source/Canada_women's_national_rugby_sevens_team) and [Great Britain](/source/Great_Britain_women's_national_rugby_sevens_team).

Within the fifteen-a-side game, Perrett has been a regular appointment to the [Women's Six Nations Championship](/source/Women's_Six_Nations_Championship) since 2014. She refereed the 2014 Women's World Cup final won by [England](/source/England_women's_national_rugby_union_team) 21–9 against [Canada](/source/Canada_women's_national_rugby_union_team) in [Paris](/source/Paris).[6]

In 2016, Perrett was the first woman appointed to referee men's teams in Australia's [National Rugby Championship](/source/National_Rugby_Championship),[7] after becoming the first female assistant referee in [Super Rugby](/source/Super_Rugby) three months earlier.[8]

Further, in 2020 on 29 August, Perrett became the first female referee in [Super Rugby](/source/Super_Rugby), refereeing the [Brumbies](/source/Brumbies) vs the [Western Force](/source/Western_Force).

During the [2020 Summer Olympics](/source/2020_Summer_Olympics), she was widely criticised on [social media](/source/Social_media) by Fijian fans when she refereed the women's semi-final match between [Fiji](/source/Fiji_women's_national_rugby_sevens_team) and [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_women's_national_rugby_sevens_team). The fans claimed that Perrett officiated the match in an unfair way.[9]
