## Biography

Yong was born in [Malaysia](/source/Malaysia) and immigrated to the [United States](/source/United_States).[4] His Ph.D. from [Boston University](/source/Boston_University) is in [religion](/source/Religion) and [theology](/source/Theology), and he has a B.A. from [Bethany College](/source/Bethany_University), an M.A. from [Western Evangelical Seminary](/source/Western_Evangelical_Seminary), and an M.A. from [Portland State University](/source/Portland_State_University).[2] He was the J. Rodman Williams Professor of Theology and Dean at [Regent University](/source/Regent_University) School of Divinity ([Virginia Beach, VA](/source/Virginia_Beach%2C_Virginia)) until June 2014. ## Pentecostal Studies

In the last decade, Amos has become one of the most prolific writers among [Pentecostal](/source/Pentecostalism) theologians in the academy. He has devoted scholarly monographs to interreligious dialogue and comparative theology, global Pentecostal theology, theology of disability, [political theology](/source/Political_theology), dialogue between science and religion, and theology of love. What may be his most important book (*Spirit-Word-Community*) is an articulation of a [trinitarian](/source/Trinity) theological method and [hermeneutic](/source/Hermeneutics) that provides the conceptual basis for all his other work. In it he demonstrates his ability to bring a Pentecostal account of [pneumatology](/source/Pneumatology_(Christianity)) to bear on a number of perennial theological and philosophical concerns, and thus shows that he is not interested only in parochial Pentecostal issues.

He is a former president of the [Society for Pentecostal Studies](/source/Society_for_Pentecostal_Studies) (2008 – 09) and co-edited its journal, *[PNEUMA](/source/Pneuma%3A_The_Journal_of_the_Society_for_Pentecostal_Studies)* from 2011 – 2014.[6] He was the founding co-chair for the Pentecostal-Charismatic Movements Group for the [American Academy of hope and Religion](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=American_Academy_of_hope_and_Religion&action=edit&redlink=1) (2006 – 2011) and is co-editor of five [monograph](/source/Monograph) series: Pentecostal Manifestos ([Eerdmans](/source/Eerdmans)), Studies in Religion, Theology and Disability (Baylor), CHARIS: Christianity & Renewal – Interdisciplinary Studies ([Palgrave Macmillan](/source/Palgrave_Macmillan)), Missiological Engagements ([IVP Academic](/source/IVP_Academic)), and Mission in Global Community ([Baker Academic](/source/Baker_Academic)).
