# Amo Sharks

**Amo Sharks** (Pashto: امو نهنګان *Amō Nahangān*; prs: آمو نهنگان) or **Amo Region** is one of eight regional [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) teams in [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan). The regional side represents the following provinces in the north of Afghanistan: [Balkh](/source/Balkh_Province), [Faryab](/source/Faryab_Province), [Jowzjan](/source/Jowzjan_Province), [Samangan](/source/Samangan_Province), and [Sar-i-Pul](/source/Sar-e_Pol_Province). The team is named after the [Amo](/source/Amu_Darya), a river in northern Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Amo Region compete in the [Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament](/source/Ahmad_Shah_Abdali_4-day_Tournament), which has had first-class status from 2017 onwards.[1] In October 2017, they lost their opening fixture of the tournament, against [Speen Ghar Region](/source/Speen_Ghar_Tigers), by an innings and 46 runs.[2]

They also play in the [Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament](/source/Ghazi_Amanullah_Khan_Regional_One_Day_Tournament), which was granted [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) status from [2017](/source/2017_Ghazi_Amanullah_Khan_Regional_One_Day_Tournament).,[3] and the Afghan [Shpageeza Cricket League](/source/Shpageeza_Cricket_League) Twenty20 competition (which has [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) status from 2017) using the name Amo Sharks. They also take part in the Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup, the [first edition](/source/2024_Qosh_Tepa_National_T20_Cup) of which will be held in April 2024.[4]
