# Amit Majmudar

**Amit Majmudar** (born 1979)[1] is an American [novelist](/source/Novelist) and [poet](/source/Poet). In 2015, he was named the first [Poet Laureate](/source/Poet_Laureate) of Ohio.[2]

## Life

Majmudar, a son of [Gujarati](/source/Gujarati_people)[3] Indian immigrants, grew up in the [Cleveland](/source/Cleveland) area. He earned a BS at the [University of Akron](/source/University_of_Akron) and an MD at [Northeast Ohio Medical University](/source/Northeast_Ohio_Medical_University).[4] He is a diagnostic [radiologist](/source/Radiology) specializing in nuclear medicine practicing full-time in [Columbus, Ohio](/source/Columbus,_Ohio), where he lives with his wife Ami and his twin sons, Shiv and Savya, and daughter Aishani.

His poems have appeared in *The Antioch Review*,[5] *Image*,[6] *[Poetry](/source/Poetry_(magazine))*, *National Poetry Review*,[7] *[Smartish Pace](/source/Smartish_Pace)*,[8] *[River Styx](/source/River_Styx_(magazine))*,[9] and *[The New Yorker](/source/The_New_Yorker)*.[10]
