**Michael Amir Junior Richardson** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): مايكل أمير جونيور ريتشاردسون; born 24 January 2002) is a professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [midfielder](/source/Midfielder) for [Danish Superliga](/source/Danish_Superliga) club [Copenhagen](/source/F.C._Copenhagen), on loan from [Serie A](/source/Serie_A) club [Fiorentina](/source/ACF_Fiorentina). Born in France, he represents the [Morocco national team](/source/Morocco_national_football_team).

## Club career

### Le Havre

Richardson came through the ranks of the [OGC Nice](/source/OGC_Nice) youth system, before joining [Le Havre AC](/source/Le_Havre_AC).[2]

He made his professional debut for on 15 May 2021, starting the [Ligue 2](/source/Ligue_2) game against the league champions [ESTAC Troyes](/source/Troyes_AC).[3] On 9 July 2021, he signed his first professional contract with Le Havre.[4] He was named Ligue 2's *Pépite du mois* ("Nugget of the Month") for December 2021[5] and was considered by many sources to have been one of the revelations of the [2021–22 season](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_Ligue_2).[6][7][8][9]

### Reims

On 1 September 2022, he transferred to [Reims](/source/Stade_de_Reims) signing a contract until 2026. He returned to Le Havre on loan for the [2022–23 season](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Le_Havre_AC_season)[10] where he was part of the team that won the [Ligue 2](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Ligue_2) championship[11] and named in the [UNFP Team of the Year](/source/Troph%C3%A9es_UNFP_du_football#Ligue_2).[12]

Richardson made his [Ligue 1](/source/Ligue_1) debut for Reims in a 2–1 loss to [Olympique Marseille](/source/Olympique_Marseille) at the [Stade Vélodrome](/source/Stade_V%C3%A9lodrome) on 12 August 2023.[13] He scored his first goal in Ligue 1 in a 2–1 loss to [Stade Brestois](/source/Stade_Brestois_29) on 17 September 2023.[14]

### Fiorentina

On 12 August 2024, Richardson joined [Serie A](/source/Serie_A) club [Fiorentina](/source/ACF_Fiorentina).[15]

On 22 January 2026, Richardson moved to Danish club [Copenhagen](/source/F.C._Copenhagen) on loan, with an option to buy.[16][17]

## International career

Richardson is the son of the American former basketball player [Micheal Ray Richardson](/source/Micheal_Ray_Richardson) and a Moroccan mother, Ilham Ngadi, born in [Fez, Morocco](/source/Fez%2C_Morocco).[18][19] He played for the [France U20s](/source/France_national_under-20_football_team) in 2021. He was called up to the [Morocco U23s](/source/Morocco_national_under-23_football_team) in March 2023. Born in France, Richardson is eligible to represent either France, Morocco or the United States at international level.[20]

In June 2023, he was included in the final squad of the [Moroccan under-23 national team](/source/Morocco_national_under-23_football_team) for the [2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2023_U-23_Africa_Cup_of_Nations), hosted on home soil,[21][22] where the *Atlas Lions* won their first title[23][24] and qualified for the [2024 Summer Olympics](/source/2024_Summer_Olympics).[23][25]

In May 2023, Richardson was approached by the [United States Soccer Federation](/source/United_States_Soccer_Federation), to see if the player would be willing to change his allegiance to the [United States national team](/source/United_States_men's_national_soccer_team). He ultimately turned them down.[26]

In September 2023, Richardson made his senior debut for the [Morocco national team](/source/Morocco_national_football_team), in a 1–0 winning effort against [Burkina Faso](/source/Burkina_Faso_national_football_team).[27] Richardson was included in the official Morocco [2023 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2023_Africa_Cup_of_Nations) squad.[28]

## Personal life

He is the son of former [NBA](/source/National_Basketball_Association) player [Micheal Ray Richardson](/source/Micheal_Ray_Richardson) (1955-2025), who had moved to France to continue his basketball career.[29]
