# Amekor

**Amekor Industries** is a manufacturer and distributor of [wigs](/source/Wig), [extensions](/source/Artificial_hair_integrations) and [hairpieces](/source/Hairpiece).[1] Based in [Conshohocken](/source/Conshohocken,_Pennsylvania), [Montgomery County](/source/Montgomery_County,_Pennsylvania), [Pennsylvania](/source/Pennsylvania), Amekor Industries was founded in 1979. The name Amekor is a [portmanteau](/source/Portmanteau) of [American](/source/United_States) and [Korean](/source/South_Korea), signifying the partnership between the company founders.

In 1996, the company partnered with [Beverly Johnson](/source/Beverly_Johnson), the first [African American](/source/African_American) model on the covers of *[Vogue](/source/Vogue_(magazine))* and *[Glamour](/source/Glamour_(magazine))*, and her team of stylists to create a new line of hair products specifically for African-American women.[2]

In 2010, Amekor began a new venture when it teamed up with [Vivica A. Fox](/source/Vivica_A._Fox) to help her with the Vivica A. Fox Hair Collection.[3]
