# Amakom

**Amakom** is a suburb of [Kumasi](/source/Kumasi) in the [Ashanti Region](/source/Ashanti_Region) of [Ghana](/source/Ghana).[1] It is located in between [Asokwa](/source/Asokwa) and [Asafo Kumasi](/source/Asafo_Kumasi). It has a market called Anwona dwam where traders from nearby towns come and sell and buy. It has about close to 10 areas and has contributed to the progress of [Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly](/source/Kumasi_Metropolitan_Assembly) and Ghana as a whole. It is believed that [Manhyia](/source/Manhyia) came to meet Amakom in existence same as Kumasi. Amakom is one the oldest suburbs in Kumasi and Ashanti region.

It has produced public figures and celebrities like [Kofi Adu](/source/Kofi_Adu), who is an actor, and has contributed immensely to the [Kumawood](/source/Kumawood) and the [Cinema of Ghana](/source/Cinema_of_Ghana) movies since the early 2000s. He is recognized as a legend of the industry and highly venerable. [2][3]
