# Alv Knutsson

**Alv Knutsson** (c. 1420–1496) was a Norwegian nobleman who descended on his father's side from the influential and wealthy Swedish [*Tre Rosor*](/source/Roos_af_Hjelms%C3%A4ter) noble family. He was a member of the [Norwegian council of the realm](/source/Rigsraadet) and also served as commander of the [royal castle in Bergen](/source/Bergenhus_fortress). Alv Knutsson is most famous for his involvement in the [Krummedige-Tre Rosor feud](/source/Krummedige-Tre_Rosor_feud). He was the father of the Norwegian rebel leader [Knut Alvsson](/source/Knut_Alvsson).[1][2]

## Landholdings

Alv Knutsson held over 276 farms in east and south Norway. He held important Norwegian fiefs including [Solør](/source/Sol%C3%B8r) and was one of the largest property holders in Norway inheriting part of the knight and Norwegian National Councillor [Sigurd Jonsson](/source/Sigurd_Jonsson_(c._1390_-1452))’s vast properties, including the [Sørum](/source/S%C3%B8rum_Municipality) estate (*Sudreim*) in [Romerike](/source/Romerike) and [Giske](/source/Giske_(island)) estate in [Sunnmøre](/source/Sunnm%C3%B8re). His wife Magnhild Oddsdatter (ca. 1425–1499) from Finne in [Voss](/source/Voss_(traditional_district)) was the widow of Bengt Harniktsson who died ca. 1446. Through his marriage, Alv Knutsson also held Grefsheim in [Hedmark](/source/Hedmark).[3][4][1]
