**Aluma** (Hebrew: אלומה) is a [moshav](/source/Moshav) in southern [Israel](/source/Israel). Located in the southern [coastal plain](/source/Israeli_coastal_plain) around three kilometers north-west of [Kiryat Gat](/source/Kiryat_Gat), it falls under the jurisdiction of [Shafir Regional Council](/source/Shafir_Regional_Council). In it had a population of .

## History

The village was established in 1965 as a [youth village](/source/Youth_village) named Hazon Yehezkel by a group called *Mosadot Hinukh Ezuri* (lit. *Institute for Regional Education*), made up of young members of [Agudat Yisrael](/source/Agudat_Yisrael). It was built on the ruins of the depopulated [Palestinian](/source/Palestinians) village of [Hatta](/source/Hatta,_Gaza).[1] In 1996 the [Ministry of Interior](/source/Ministry_of_Interior_(Israel)) granted the village municipal council status and renamed it Aluma. In 2014, the Israel Antiquities Authority uncovered a 1,500-year-old Byzantine church containing an ancient mosaic floor bearing a [Christogram](/source/Christogram) surrounded by birds. [2] The church was discovered during a salvage dig prior to the construction of a new neighborhood on the moshav.[3]
