**Althea** (Old English: *Alþea*) is an English female given name. It is a variation of the Greek name *[Althaea](/source/Althaea_(disambiguation))* (Αλθαια), which may be related to Greek ἀλθος *althos* ("healing").

[Richard Lovelace](/source/Richard_Lovelace_(poet)) used the name in a poem ("[To Althea, from Prison](/source/To_Althea,_from_Prison)") that [John Milton](/source/John_Milton) later alluded to in his own poem "[Lycidas](/source/Lycidas)".[1]
