**Altaf Raja** (born 15 October 1967) is an Indian [Qawwali](/source/Qawwali) singer.[1][2] In 1997 Altaf gained recognition with his debut album *[Tum To Thehre Pardesi](/source/Tum_To_Thehre_Pardesi)*.[3] His most recent song is *Ae Sanam*.[4] He uses Urdu shayari in his songs.

## Early life

Born in Nagpur to professional Qawwals Mr Ibrahim Iqbal and Mrs Rani Rooplata ji, Altaf Raja began musical training at the age of 15.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

## Career

Raja's breakthrough came in 1997 with the album *Tum To Thehre Pardesi*,[1] which sold 20 million copies and earned a spot in the [Guinness World Records](/source/Guinness_World_Records).[5][6]

Raja has also acted in [Bollywood](/source/Bollywood) movies such as *[Shapath](/source/Shapath)* (1997),[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] *[Yamraaj](/source/Yamraaj_(film))* (1998), *[Mother](/source/Mother_(1999_film))* (1999), and *[Ghanchakkar](/source/Ghanchakkar_(film))* (2013).
