# Alms Park

**Frederick H. Alms Memorial Park** (often shortened to **Alms Park**) is an [urban park](/source/Urban_park) located in the [Mt. Lookout](/source/Mount_Lookout,_Ohio) and [Columbia-Tusculum](/source/Columbia-Tusculum,_Cincinnati) neighborhoods of [Cincinnati, Ohio](/source/Cincinnati,_Ohio). It is owned and operated by the [Cincinnati Park Board](/source/Cincinnati_Park_Board), and its entrance is located at 650 Tusculum Avenue.

## History

In 1916, 85 acres (34 ha) of land was donated to the city by Mrs. Frederick H. Alms on the condition a park be established in honor of her late husband.[2] The land was originally owned by [Nicholas Longworth](/source/Nicholas_Longworth_(horticulturist)), once the wealthiest man in Cincinnati and [patriarch](/source/Patriarch) of the [Longworth family](/source/Longworth_family).

The landscaping was designed by the [Cleveland, Ohio](/source/Cleveland,_Ohio), [landscape architect](/source/Landscape_architect) [Albert Davis Taylor](/source/Albert_Davis_Taylor). The park's centerpiece, a [pavilion](/source/Pavilion) in the [Italian Renaissance](/source/Italian_Renaissance) style, was completed in 1929 by [architects](/source/Architects) [Stanley Matthews](/source/Stanley_Matthews_(architect)) and [Charles Wilkins Short, Jr.](/source/Charles_Wilkins_Short,_Jr.)[1]

A bronze statue of [Stephen Foster](/source/Stephen_Foster), author of "[My Old Kentucky Home](/source/My_Old_Kentucky_Home)", was installed in Alms Park in 1937. It faces south, towards the hills of [Kentucky](/source/Kentucky).[3]
