**Allen McIntyre Stack** (January 23, 1928 – September 12, 1999) was an American [competition swimmer](/source/Swimming_(sport)), [Olympic](/source/Olympic_Games) champion, and former [world record](/source/World_record)-holder.

Stack won the gold medal in the [men's 100-meter backstroke](/source/Swimming_at_the_1948_Summer_Olympics_-_Men's_100_metre_backstroke) at the [1948 Summer Olympics](/source/1948_Summer_Olympics) in London.[1] Four years later at the [1952 Summer Olympics](/source/1952_Summer_Olympics) in [Helsinki](/source/Helsinki), [Finland](/source/Finland). He placed fourth in the final of the same event.[1]

Stack attended [Yale University](/source/Yale_University), where he swam for the [Yale Bulldogs swimming and diving](/source/Yale_Bulldogs_swimming_and_diving) team in [National Collegiate Athletic Association](/source/National_Collegiate_Athletic_Association) (NCAA) competition from 1947 to 1949. He graduated from Yale with a bachelor's degree in 1949. He served in the [U.S. Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) from 1951 to 1954, and graduated from [Columbia University Law School](/source/Columbia_University_Law_School) in 1956. He practiced law in [Honolulu, Hawaii](/source/Honolulu%2C_Hawaii) until 1998.[2]

Stack was inducted into the [International Swimming Hall of Fame](/source/International_Swimming_Hall_of_Fame) as an "Honor Swimmer" in 1979.[3]
