Jaffe was living in [New Orleans](/source/New_Orleans) in 1961, when he took over management and creative direction of [Preservation Hall](/source/Preservation_Hall) with his wife Sandra.[3] As owner of the facility, he played a major role in the [New Orleans jazz](/source/Dixieland) revival of the 1960s, shepherding the latter-day careers of [George Lewis](/source/George_Lewis_(clarinetist)), [Jim Robinson](/source/Jim_Robinson_(trombonist)), [Alcide Pavageau](/source/Alcide_Pavageau), [Punch Miller](/source/Punch_Miller), [Chester Zardis](/source/Chester_Zardis), [Kid Sheik Cola](/source/Kid_Sheik_Cola), [Percy Humphrey](/source/Percy_Humphrey), [Willie Humphrey](/source/Willie_Humphrey), [Kid Thomas Valentine](/source/Kid_Thomas_Valentine), [Billie](/source/Billie_Pierce) and [De De Pierce](/source/De_De_Pierce), and others.

Jaffe's son, [Ben Jaffe](/source/Ben_Jaffe), is a [double-bass](/source/Double-bass) and tuba player, who now leads and performs with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Jaffe died of cancer at age 51 on March 9, 1987.[2] He is interred at Chevra Thilim cemetery in New Orleans.[4]
