**Alieu** is a [West African](/source/West_African) male given name, which means "strong" and has its origins with the [Fula people](/source/Fula_people).[1][failed verification] It was a common name in the Fulani [royal](/source/Royal_family) families and used to be reserved for royalty. This practice has continued in many Fulani clans today, most notably the Barry, [Bah](/source/Bah) and [Jallow](/source/Jallow) clans. Alieu is a traditional male name in [Gambia](/source/Gambia).[2] The name may refer to:
