# Alfred Newcomb

**Alfred Edwin Newcomb** (20 November 1873 – 4 February 1932) was an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Newcomb was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowled both right-arm [slow](/source/Spin_bowling) and right-arm [fast-medium](/source/Fast_bowling). He was born at [Market Harborough](/source/Market_Harborough), [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire).

Newcomb made a single [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) appearance for [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire_County_Cricket_Club) against [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1911 County Championship](/source/1911_County_Championship) at the [United Services Recreation Ground, Portsmouth](/source/United_Services_Recreation_Ground).[1] In Hampshire's first-innings of 145 all out, Newcomb bowled ten [overs](/source/Over_(cricket)) which conceded 26 runs, while taking a single wicket, that of [Jimmy Stone](/source/Jimmy_Stone). In Leicestershire's first-innings of 182 all out, he was [run out](/source/Run_out) for a single run. He bowled sixteen wicketless overs in Hampshire's second-innings, which conceded 48 runs. He was again run out in Leicestershire's second-innings, this time for a [duck](/source/Duck_(cricket)), with Hampshire winning what was his only first-class appearance by 108 runs.[2]

He died at the town of his birth on 4 February 1932.
