Lin was born in Taiwan. While at Harvard, Lin met [Tony Hsieh](/source/Tony_Hsieh), the future CEO of Zappos.<ref name="cnbczapp" /> Hsieh first recognized Lin's business acumen while running a student-owned pizza parlor at Harvard.
