He was born in [Eichfeld](/source/Eichfeld), [Austria](/source/Austria). He was the founder of the literary magazine ''{{interlanguage link|manuskripte|de}}''. He was the President of the {{interlanguage link|Forum Stadtpark|de}}, a cultural center in [Graz](/source/Graz). He contributes to the [Grazer Autorenversammlung](/source/Grazer_Autorenversammlung). He won the [Petrarca-Preis](/source/Petrarca-Preis) in 1978, and was since 2010 part of the jury.
