# Alfred Cleveland Weed

**Alfred Cleveland Weed** was an American ichthyologist, known for expeditions to the [Arctic](/source/Arctic), where he catalogued the region's fish.[1][2]

Weed was born in [North Rose, New York](/source/North_Rose,_New_York), and earned his [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree) at [Cornell University](/source/Cornell_University).[1]

He was hired as assistant curator of the [Field Museum of Natural History](/source/Field_Museum_of_Natural_History) in 1921.[2] By his retirement, in 1942, he was serving as full curator of the Fishery department.[3]

He made multiple scientific field trips to [Labrador](/source/Labrador) and [Greenland](/source/Greenland) in the 1920s and 1930s.[1]
