Raised internationally in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America, Zimmermann earned her Bachelor's degree in Zoology from the [University of Leeds](/source/University_of_Leeds) in 1997. She also earned a MSc in Conservation Biology from the [Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology](/source/Durrell_Institute_of_Conservation_and_Ecology) in 2000.
