# Alexandra Ocles

**María Alexandra Ocles Padilla** (born 22 January 1979 in [Quito](/source/Quito)) is an Ecuadorian politician and educator.

## Biography

Alexandra Ocles was born in [Quito](/source/Quito) on 22 January 1979. From 1989 to 1990, she studied at the [Manuela Cañizares](/source/Manuela_Ca%C3%B1izares) College and then obtained a degree in educational sciences at [Politecnica Salesiana University](/source/Politecnica_Salesiana_University) and the [Latin American Social Sciences Institute](/source/Latin_American_Social_Sciences_Institute).[1]

Ocles was elected to the [National Congress of Ecuador](/source/National_Congress_(Ecuador)) for the [Socialist Party](/source/Socialist_Party_%E2%80%93_Broad_Front_of_Ecuador) in 2003,[1] then to the Constituent Assembly in 2007 for the [Ruptura 25](/source/Ruptura_25) movement.[2] She was made head of the People's Secretariat by [Rafael Correa](/source/Rafael_Correa) and held this position until January 2011.[3] At that time, Ruptura 25 announced its departure from the government, stating that the President had exceeded the expectations of his office. In opposition to the [2011 referendum](/source/Ecuadorian_referendum_and_popular_consultation,_2011), Ocles and other members of Ruptura 25 resigned from their positions.[4][5]

In May 2017, Ocles was named National Secretary of Risk Management by President [Lenín Moreno](/source/Len%C3%ADn_Moreno) to work with his team during his four year term,[6]
