# Alexandra Falls

The **Alexandra Falls** ([Slavey](/source/Slavey_language): *Hatto deh Naili*) is a 32 m (105 ft)[1] waterfall located on the [Hay River](/source/Hay_River_(Canada)) in the [Northwest Territories](/source/Northwest_Territories). The falls, the third highest in the NWT, form part of the [Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Park](/source/Twin_Falls_Gorge_Territorial_Park) and has its own day use area with a 3 km (1.9 mi) trail to the main campsite at [Louise Falls](/source/Louise_Falls) (15 m drop),[2] the second of the Twin Falls. Situated on the [Mackenzie Highway](/source/Mackenzie_Highway) the falls are about 10 km (6.2 mi) southwest of [Enterprise](/source/Enterprise,_Northwest_Territories) and 43 km (27 mi) southwest of [Hay River](/source/Hay_River,_Northwest_Territories).[3][4]

Both [Ed Lucero](/source/Ed_Lucero)[5] and [Tyler Bradt](/source/Tyler_Bradt),[6] [whitewater](/source/Whitewater) [kayakers](/source/Kayaking), have successfully gone over the falls in [kayaks](/source/Kayak). Traditional [Dene](/source/Dene) lore says that the two falls are two spirits, Grandmother and Grandfather, who protect the area.[7]
