## Biography

Alexandra Arce was born in [Guayaquil](/source/Guayaquil), [Ecuador](/source/Ecuador), on 31 July 1977. She studied at the [Laica Vicente Rocafuerte University](/source/Laica_Vicente_Rocafuerte_University), graduating with a degree in commercial engineering.[1]

In the [2009 provincial elections](/source/2009_Ecuadorian_provincial_elections), Arce was elected to the City Council of [Durán](/source/Dur%C3%A1n,_Ecuador) as a member of the [PAIS Alliance](/source/PAIS_Alliance).[2] During her time on the council, Arce was set against the policies of Mayor [Dalton Narváez](/source/Dalton_Narv%C3%A1ez), of the [Social Christian Party](/source/Social_Christian_Party_(Ecuador)). In May 2010, Arce filed a complaint with a prosecutor against the mayor and his mother, former Mayor [Mariana Mendieta](/source/Mariana_Mendieta),[3] over allegations of a physical attack and corruption in Narváez's government.[2]

In the [2013 legislative elections](/source/2013_Ecuadorian_legislative_elections), Arce was elected to the [Ecuadorian National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_(Ecuador)) for [Guayas Province](/source/Guayas_Province) and representing the PAIS Alliance.[4] She resigned from her seat in November of that same year to stand for election in the [2014 elections](/source/2014_Ecuadorian_provincial_elections) for the mayoralty of Durán,[5] and defeated Dalton Narváez, who sought reelection.[6]

In 2023 she returned to the National Assembly after the mass resignation, that year, created by the out-going President Lasso.[7]
