Alexander Wehrle was born in 1975 in [Bietigheim-Bissingen](/source/Bietigheim-Bissingen), a town in the German state of [Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg).{{Sfn|Fischer|2021}} In his youth, he played as a [right winger](/source/right_winger) at the local football club TV Möglingen and was considered for a move to the academy of [VfB Stuttgart](/source/VfB_Stuttgart). However, his parents decided against the move because they wanted their son to focus on his studies.{{Sfn|Holbein|2021}} Wehrle went on to study administrative science, [management](/source/management), and [public policy](/source/public_policy) at the [University of Konstanz](/source/University_of_Konstanz) and the [University of Limerick](/source/University_of_Limerick).{{Sfn|Fischer|2021}}
== Career in football ==
From 2003 to 2013, Wehrle worked as an advisor to the board of VfB Stuttgart.{{Sfn|Fischer|2021}} In 2013, he was appointed [managing director](/source/managing_director) at [1. FC Köln](/source/1._FC_K%C3%B6ln) who at the time played in Germany's [2. Bundesliga](/source/second_division). His tenure at the club was a successful one; it involved the transfer of the French [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)) [Anthony Modeste](/source/Anthony_Modeste_(footballer%2C_born_1988)) to [Chinese Super League](/source/Chinese_Super_League) club [Tianjin Tianhai F.C.](/source/Tianjin_Tianhai_F.C.) for a reported fee of around €30 million.
