He was a [Labor](/source/Australian_Labor_Party_(Western_Australian_Branch)) member of the [Western Australian Legislative Council](/source/Western_Australian_Legislative_Council) from 1919 to 1922, before entering the [Western Australian Legislative Assembly](/source/Western_Australian_Legislative_Assembly) in 1924, representing [Menzies](/source/Electoral_district_of_Menzies). He transferred to [Leederville](/source/Electoral_district_of_Leederville) in 1930 and served until 1951.
