# Alexander Mahoney

**Alexander John Mahoney** (born 30 January 1947) was a New Zealand [cricketer](/source/Cricket). He was a right-handed batsman and slow left-arm bowler who played for [Berkshire](/source/Berkshire_County_Cricket_Club). He was born at [Invercargill](/source/Invercargill) in 1947.[1]

Mahoney played for [Southland](/source/Southland_cricket_team) from the 1962–63 season. He studied at the [University of Otago](/source/University_of_Otago) and in 1971–72 played for New Zealand Universities and for [the Otago B team](/source/Otago_cricket_team). He made two [Hawke Cup](/source/Hawke_Cup) appearances for [Southland](/source/Southland_cricket_team) during the 1973–74 season before playing for Berkshire in the [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Championship) between 1975 and 1976. He was awarded his County Cap in 1975.[2]

Mahoney's sole [List A cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) appearance came in the 1976 Gillette Cup, against [Hertfordshire](/source/Hertfordshire_County_Cricket_Club). He took four wickets during the match.[2] Back in New Zealand, he played for [Wairarapa](/source/Wairarapa_cricket_team) between 1978–79 and 1983–84.[2]
