**Alexander Lincoln** (born 21 January 1994) is a British actor best known for his portrayals of [Jamie Tate](/source/Jamie_Tate) in *[Emmerdale](/source/Emmerdale)* from 2019 to 2021, and Mark Newton in the 2022 romantic drama film *[In from the Side](/source/In_from_the_Side)*.[1][2] He has also portrayed [Joel Tanner](/source/List_of_Doctors_characters_introduced_in_2024#Joel_Tanner) in the [BBC](/source/BBC) soap opera *[Doctors](/source/Doctors_(2000_TV_series))*.

## Career

Lincoln made his television debut in the [ITV1](/source/ITV1) soap *[Emmerdale](/source/Emmerdale)*, playing [Jamie Tate](/source/Jamie_Tate) from 2019 to 2021.[3][4]

In 2022, Lincoln starred as Mark Newton in the film *[In from the Side](/source/In_from_the_Side)*.[5][6][7] In 2024, he appeared in seven episodes of television soap *[Doctors](/source/Doctors_(2000_TV_series))* as [Joel Tanner](/source/List_of_Doctors_characters_introduced_in_2024#Joel_Tanner).[8][9]

In 2025, he starred as Oliver in the film *A Night Like This*, opposite Jack Brett Anderson.[10] In June and July 2025, Lincoln starred in the [Billy Porter](/source/Billy_Porter)-directed play, *This Bitter Earth*, at the [Soho Theatre](/source/Soho_Theatre) in London.[11][12][13]

## Personal life

On [Instagram](/source/Instagram),[14] Lincoln hinted at his [sexual orientation](/source/Sexual_orientation) in January 2023, stating that he is "not straight".[15]
