# Alexander Critchley

**Alexander Critchley** (17 December 1893 – 4 September 1974)[1] was a British [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)) politician. He was elected a [member of parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) for [Liverpool Edge Hill](/source/Liverpool_Edge_Hill_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in 1935[2] until 1945, when he stood down. An accountant by profession, he was also a member of [Liverpool City Council](/source/Liverpool_City_Council).[1] In 1946, he was re-elected as the chairman of the Liverpool Power and Lighting Committee.[3]

## Personal life

Critchley was born in [Ormskirk](/source/Ormskirk), Lancashire,[4] on 17 December 1893 to William Edwin Critchley.[1] He was educated at the [University of Liverpool](/source/University_of_Liverpool) and in 1925 he married Lucy Lindsay.[1] He died 4 September 1974 aged 80.[5]
