Boyd was born in [Albany](/source/Albany%2C_New_York) in the [Province of New York](/source/Province_of_New_York). He married Elizabeth Becker and they had thirteen children, Delia, John, Helen, David, Ann, Albert Barthalomew, Peter, James, Margaret, William, Nancy, Alexander, and Hugh.<ref>{{cite web|title=Alexander Boyd|url=http://records.ancestry.com/Honerable_Alexander_Boyd_records.ashx?pid=4965880|publisher=Ancestry.com|accessdate=September 16, 2013}}</ref>

==Career==
Boyd moved to [Middleburgh, New York](/source/Middleburgh_(town)%2C_New_York) and engaged in agricultural pursuits.

Elected as a [Federalist](/source/Federalist_Party) to the [13th United States Congress](/source/13th_United_States_Congress), Boyd was United States Representative for the thirteenth district of New York from March 4, 1813, to March 3, 1815.

Boyd died in [Esperance, New York](/source/Esperance%2C_New_York), on April 8, 1857. He is [interred](/source/burial) at Schoharie Cemetery, Schoharie, New York.
