==Early life==
After completing his academic and musical studies at [Stoke Brunswick](/source/Stoke_Brunswick_School), Stobbs joined the [Choir of King's College](/source/Choir_of_King's_College%2C_Cambridge), [Cambridge](/source/Cambridge).{{Citation needed|date=January 2025}} During his time as a chorister, he participated in a recording of [Johann Sebastian Bach](/source/Johann_Sebastian_Bach)'s [''Magnificat''](/source/Magnificat_(Bach)) with King's College for [EMI](/source/EMI), a piece he would later conduct. He also studied music as a [choral scholar](/source/choral_scholar) at King's College. 

On 5 April 2009, he conducted Bach's ''[St Matthew Passion](/source/St_Matthew_Passion)'' at [Cadogan Hall](/source/Cadogan_Hall) in [London](/source/London), featuring the [Rodolfus Choir](/source/Rodolfus_Choir) and [Southbank Sinfonia](/source/Southbank_Sinfonia). Stobbs took early inspiration from the works of [Walter de la Mare](/source/Walter_de_la_Mare) and British novelist [J. K.
