# Alex Lincoln

**Alexander Lincoln** (born November 17, 1977) is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) [linebacker](/source/Linebacker) for the [San Francisco 49ers](/source/San_Francisco_49ers) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL).

Lincoln attended [Murphy High School](/source/Murphy_High_School_(Alabama)) in [Mobile, Alabama](/source/Mobile,_Alabama). Lincoln later played [college football](/source/College_football) for [Auburn University](/source/Auburn_University), where he was roommates with [Heath Evans](/source/Heath_Evans), a fullback on the 2007 New England Patriots. He was selected 209th overall in the seventh round in the [2001 NFL draft](/source/2001_NFL_draft).[1] [Mel Kiper Jr.](/source/Mel_Kiper_Jr.) had noted Lincoln in his list of top inside linebackers available in the draft.[\[1\]](https://www.espn.com/melkiper/s/2001/0411/1171670.html)
