**Alex Horton** (born 7 January 2004) is a Welsh [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who plays for [Glamorgan](/source/Glamorgan_County_Cricket_Club) as a [wicket-keeper](/source/Wicket-keeper). Before making his senior debut for Glamorgan, Horton also played for the [England under-19 cricket team](/source/England_under-19_cricket_team).[1][2] Horton was one of the youngest players to represent Glamorgan, after he made his debut for the team in a second XI match.[3]

From [Newbridge, Caerphilly](/source/Newbridge,_Caerphilly), Horton took his [A-Levels](/source/A-Levels) at [St Edward's School, Oxford](/source/St_Edward's_School,_Oxford).[4]

At the age of 17, Horton signed a five-year contract with Glamorgan, after coming through their academy programme.[5] In September 2021, Horton was named in England's under-19 squad to play in a six-match series against the [West Indies](/source/West_Indies_under-19_cricket_team).[5] Three months later, Horton was selected in England's squad to play at the [2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup](/source/2022_ICC_Under-19_Cricket_World_Cup) in the Caribbean.[6][7] In England's first match of the tournament, against [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh_national_under-19_cricket_team), Horton took six catches,[8] with the team winning by seven wickets.[9] In the Super League semi-final match against [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan_national_under-19_cricket_team), Horton scored 53 [not out](/source/Not_out) from 36 balls to help England reach the final of the tournament, an innings that was described as "something special".[10] In the final of the tournament, against [India](/source/India_national_under-19_cricket_team), Horton took a catch to dismiss Harnoor Singh.[11] However, India went on to win the match and the tournament.[12]

In June 2022, Horton was selected to make his first team debut for Glamorgan after their first choice wicket-keeper [Chris Cooke](/source/Chris_Cooke) was ruled out due to a calf injury.[13] Horton was due to play against [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire_County_Cricket_Club) on 18 June 2022 in their [T20 Blast](/source/2022_T20_Blast) match.[13] However, despite the [toss](/source/Toss_(cricket)) taking place, the match was abandoned with no play taking place due to rain.[14] The match was officially recorded as a [no result](/source/Result_(cricket)#No_result),[15] meaning that Horton made his [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) debut despite no actual play being possible.[16] The following day, in the T20 Blast match against the [Sussex Sharks](/source/Sussex_County_Cricket_Club), Horton took part in the match, where he made his first dismissal with the [stumping](/source/Stumped) of [Harrison Ward](/source/Harrison_Ward).[17] Glamorgan went on to win the match by four wickets.[18]
