# Alex Dick

**Alexander Russell "Sanny" Dick** (1894 – 1958) was a Scottish [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [right back](/source/Defender_(association_football)#Full-back) for [Airdrieonians](/source/Airdrieonians_F.C._(1878)).

Installed as a first-team regular in defence in his second season (he initially played as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)) after joining from [Armadale](/source/Armadale_F.C.) and featured less frequently), he missed only eight league matches across the four consecutive seasons where the *Diamonds* finished as runners-up in the [Scottish Football League](/source/Scottish_Football_League) and also played in the [1924 Scottish Cup Final](/source/1924_Scottish_Cup_Final) in which Airdrie defeated [Hibernian](/source/Hibernian_F.C.)[1] to claim their only major trophy. In 1927 he was advised to stop playing football for health reasons, and [Jimmy Crapnell](/source/Jimmy_Crapnell) was brought in as a replacement; Dick had a brief spell with [Dykehead](/source/Dykehead_F.C.) in his home district after leaving [Broomfield Park](/source/Broomfield_Park).[2][3]
