**Albinea** ([Reggiano](/source/Emilian_language#Dialects): *Albinèa* or *La Fôla*) is a *[comune](/source/Comune)* (municipality) in the [Province of Reggio Emilia](/source/Province_of_Reggio_Emilia) in the Italian region [Emilia-Romagna](/source/Emilia-Romagna), located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) west of [Bologna](/source/Bologna) and about 10 kilometres (6 mi) southwest of [Reggio nell'Emilia](/source/Reggio_Emilia).

The ancient church of Albinea.

A document shows that in 980 Holy Roman Emperor [Otto II](/source/Otto_II) recognized the existence and rights of the ancient *Pieve* (parish church) of Albinea. From 1070 it was a possession of the bishops of Reggio, who also had a place here. Later, from 1412, it was a fief of the [Manfredi](/source/Manfredi) family, who held it until 1730.

Albinea borders the following municipalities: [Quattro Castella](/source/Quattro_Castella), [Reggio Emilia](/source/Reggio_Emilia), [Scandiano](/source/Scandiano), [Vezzano sul Crostolo](/source/Vezzano_sul_Crostolo), [Viano](/source/Viano%2C_Reggio_Emilia).

Albinea was for the most part of its history a rural village; nowadays, a pleasant landscape, between the plains and the lowest hills of the [Apennines](/source/Apennines), a nice climate, and the opportunities of a developed centre have made Albinea an elegant and comfortable place. The short distance from Reggio Emilia allows many citizens to commute daily.
