Alberto Gender Male Origin Word/name Romance adaptation of an Old Germanic name Meaning Noble and bright Other names See also Albert, Albertus, Adalbert, Elbert, Adelbert

**Alberto** is the [Romance](/source/Romance_languages) version of the [Latinized](/source/Latin) form (*Albertus*) of [Germanic](/source/Germanic_languages) *[Albert](/source/Albert_(given_name))*. It is used in [Italian](/source/Italian_language), [Portuguese](/source/Portuguese_language) and [Spanish](/source/Spanish_language). The diminutive forms are *Albertito* in Spain or *Albertico* in some parts of Latin America, [Albertino](/source/Albertino) in Italian as well as *Tuco* as a [hypocorism](/source/Spanish_language_hypocorism). It derives from the name [Adalberto](/source/Adalberto) which in turn derives from *[Athala](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Athala&action=edit&redlink=1)* (meaning noble) and *Berth* (meaning bright).[1][2]
