# Albert Staton

**Albert Hammond Staton** (December 4, 1899 – January 15, 1980) was a [college football](/source/College_football) and [basketball](/source/Basketball) player for the [Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets](/source/Georgia_Tech_Yellow_Jackets) of the [Georgia Institute of Technology](/source/Georgia_Institute_of_Technology),[1] and a [Coca-Cola](/source/Coca-Cola) executive in [Colombia](/source/Colombia).

## Early years

Albert Staton was born on December 4, 1899, in [Attalla, Alabama](/source/Attalla,_Alabama), the son of John Curtis Staton and Bivien Hammond Staton.[2] He attended [Boys High School](/source/Midtown_High_School_(Atlanta)) in [Atlanta](/source/Atlanta), [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(U.S._state)).

## Georgia Tech

Staton graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech. He was a prominent end for the [Georgia Tech football](/source/Georgia_Tech_Yellow_Jackets_football) team. He was selected [All-Southern](/source/College_Football_All-Southern_Team) every year he played,[3] and picked for its All-Era Team. Albert played with his brother [John](/source/John_Staton).

In 1921, Staton was captain of the basketball team.[4]

Staton was elected into the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 1963.[5]

Al Staton was the first chief executive officer of the Alumni Association and editor of its magazine.[6] He could also sing, a [baritone](/source/Baritone).[7]

## Coca-Cola

He worked for the [Coca-Cola](/source/Coca-Cola) company in [Colombia](/source/Colombia), founding the company Panamerican Beverages.[8][9] He joined the company in 1924.[10]

## World War II

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.[11]
