Whitcomb](/source/Orlan_P._Whitcomb). In [1886](/source/1886_Minnesota_gubernatorial_election), now as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_of_Minnesota), Scheffer ran for [governor of Minnesota](/source/governor_of_Minnesota). During the Republican primary, he was one of five candidates.
