'''Albert Wills McIntire''' (January 15, 1853 – January 31, 1935) was an American [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) politician. He was the [ninth governor of Colorado](/source/List_of_governors_of_Colorado) from 1895 to 1897. In 1896 Governor McIntire sent the [Colorado National Guard](/source/Colorado_National_Guard) to [Leadville](/source/Leadville%2C_Colorado) due to [violence at the Coronado Mine](/source/Leadville_miners'_strike) during a strike by the [Western Federation of Miners](/source/Western_Federation_of_Miners).

Early in 1896, McIntire rejected a last-minute [insanity defense](/source/insanity_defense) appeal of the [Park County](/source/Park_County%2C_Colorado) rancher [Benjamin Ratcliff](/source/Benjamin_Ratcliff), who murdered three members of his local school board with whom he had quarreled over the education of this three children. After McIntire refused to intervene, Ratcliff was [hanged](/source/Hanging) at the [Colorado State Penitentiary](/source/Colorado_State_Penitentiary) at [Cañon City](/source/Ca%C3%B1on_City%2C_Colorado).
