**Albert Grieg Rutherford** (January 3, 1879 – August 10, 1941) was an American lawyer and politician who was elected to three terms as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [U.S. House of Representatives](/source/U.S._House_of_Representatives) from [Pennsylvania](/source/Pennsylvania), serving from 1937 until his death in 1941.

## Biography

Albert G. Rutherford was born in [Watford, Ontario](/source/Watford%2C_Ontario), [Canada](/source/Canada). He immigrated to the [United States](/source/United_States) in 1883 with his parents, who settled in [Carbondale, Pennsylvania](/source/Carbondale%2C_Pennsylvania). He attended [Blair Academy](/source/Blair_Academy) in [Blairstown, NJ](/source/Blairstown%2C_NJ), and the Scranton-Lackawanna Business College. He graduated from the [University of Pennsylvania Law School](/source/University_of_Pennsylvania_Law_School) at [Philadelphia](/source/Philadelphia) in 1904, where he became a member of the [Delta Chi](/source/Delta_Chi) fraternity.

### Early career

He served as deputy [prothonotary](/source/Prothonotary) of [Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania](/source/Lackawanna_County%2C_Pennsylvania), from 1907 to 1914. He moved to [Honesdale, Pennsylvania](/source/Honesdale%2C_Pennsylvania), in 1918 and continued the practice of law. He enlisted in the [Pennsylvania National Guard](/source/Pennsylvania_National_Guard) in 1904, and served as a lieutenant colonel of the Second Pennsylvania Reserve Militia in 1918.

### Congress

Rutherford was elected as a Republican to the [Seventy-fifth](/source/75th_United_States_Congress), [Seventy-sixth](/source/76th_United_States_Congress), and [Seventy-seventh](/source/77th_United_States_Congress) Congresses and served until his death.

### Death

Rutherford died in [Washington, D.C.](/source/Washington%2C_D.C.) on August 10, 1941.
